How to Preserve Your Family Heirlooms

On Saturday, Jun 14 at 1:00 in the Commissioners’ Courtroom, the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum will be a hosting a lecture by Kim McCoig Cupit on “How to Preserve Your Family Heirlooms.”

Mrs. Cupit is the Curator of Collections for the Denton County Office of History and Culture.

Her talk will focus on how to display, clean, and store your heirlooms.  Mrs. Cupit stated “one of the major misconceptions is that if you put your heirlooms in your cedar chest that they will last forever, but this is not necessarily true.”

Kim plans to structure her talk more as a question and answer session, rather than a lecture.  She said that she wants “the audience to bring plenty of questions.” It is not necessary to bring the actual heirloom, but attendees are welcome to bring small items or photographs.

As part of her lecture, she will include how to locate a conservator.  She stated, “very often a person needs the advice of an expert on how to preserve their precious heirlooms and they need to know how to contact a conservator.”

All exhibits and lectures are free and open to the public.  The courthouse has handicapped parking and accessibility through the north entrance.  The Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum is located in the historic Denton County Courthouse at 110 W. Hickory in Denton, TX.
