Whitney: Arts in the Parks Haiku Workshop

March 15, 2014 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that is focused on nature and dates back to the seventeenth century. Haiku is easy to learn and quick to write. This form of poetry is enjoyed by people of all ages. This program will guide participants through the creative process, starting with appropriate form and finishing with haiku as a “contemplative practice.” Pencils and index cards will be provided. Select poems written during the program will have the opportunity to be published on Lake Whitney State Park’s Facebook fan site. Meet at the fishing point.

Bring drinking water. The small amount of walking necessary to attend this program will be across rocky surfaces –please wear footwear appropriate for the occasion. Families with children are encouraged to attend.

  • The program is free for any participant who has a valid entrance permit for the day. Entrance permits are available from Park Headquarters for $5.00 per person for everyone 13 or older. Children 12 or under are free. Entrance fees are also covered by a valid Texas State Parks Pass.
