Whitney: Fishing 101

Learn the basics of traditional fishing such as tying a hook on a line, casting a rod and reel, identifying fish and demonstrating safe and responsible fishing through fun and engaging activities. All necessary equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Meet at the playground between the boat ramp and the shelter area.

Families with children are encouraged to attend. Wear comfortable clothing for outdoor casting activities. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring drinking water (or a water bottle), snacks and sun protection. No fishing license is required.

  • The program is free for any participant who has a valid entrance permit for the day. Entrance permits are available from Park Headquarters for $5.00 per person for everyone 13 or older. Children 12 or under are free. Entrance fees are also covered by a valid Texas State Parks Pass.
