Join us for our brand new parlor chat series! There will be a new topic every other month, each topic following this year’s theme of “Love and Marriage.”

During the January 18th chat, we will discuss the husband's role in marriage and in the family. Gender roles were strictly defined for the upper classes during the Victorian times, with specific expectations regarding a man's role in the house versus that of the woman's. This parlor chat, in combination with the next one in March, will highlight the differences and how both the man's and woman's roles were depicted in the popular culture of the time.

Parlor chats last approximately 45 minutes. We will meet in the parlor of the Maxey House at 3 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month (unless otherwise noted).
