Granbury: Historic Downtown Granbury

Granbury prides itself as the town “Where Texas History Lives.” It is known for it’s history and historic preservation. Granbury was founded in the 1860s. Most of the buildings in the Historic District  were built in the late 1800s. Many have been restored and proudly display Historical Markers.

The Downtown Square, the first town square in Texas to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has become a prototype for restoration projects all over America.  Granbury is rich in history, rich in folklore, and a town where they still tell tales of Davy Crockett and Jesse James.  There are eight festivals a year, some with strollers who dress in costumes from various historic periods from the Civil War to the early 20th century.
